Business Impact Analysis
A business impact analysis (BIA) is a systematic process to determine and evaluate the potential effects of an interruption to critical business operations due to a disaster, accident, or emergency. A BIA is essential to an organization's business continuity plan (BCP). It includes an exploratory component to reveal any threats and vulnerabilities and a planning component to develop strategies for minimizing risk. The result is a business impact analysis report, which describes the potential risks specific to the organization studied.
The BIA is a recommended service that The Detroit Public Library leadership team can use to establish a Security Baseline and move the organization toward having an excellent situational awareness of its security posture. However, the BIA is a living process! The IC Data Communications team recommends starting with a BIA involving an examination of policies, protocols, personnel, Identity Access Management, Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery, Data Loss Prevention, New Hire Provisioning onto the Network, Termination Procedures for Departed Employees, Operating Systems and Patch Levels, Security Monitoring, as well as several additional factors.
Once the assessment is complete, we will evaluate the responses and all data collected, identify findings, and recommend solutions; then, the DPL leadership and IT department will have a reasonably good prescription of what needs to be addressed or remediated. Our BIA is based on ISO/IEC 27002:2022.
The Business Impact Analysis is based on a 40-hour engagement at $343 per hour. If the project goes beyond 40 hours, the price will increase by the number of additional hours multiplied by the hourly rate.
